Register for the 75km/100km/140km

The Gran Fondo Badlands ride begins Badlands Community Facility and passes by the Largest blue Dinosaur in the World. There should be little, if any, traffic. The roads are in great shape with smooth pavement all the way around the course. You head along the North Dinosaur Trail right past the Royal Tyrrell Museum to the 100 year old Bleriot ferry, approximately 25 km. Stop at the aid station for refreshments, take in the scenery, enjoy the ferry ride across the Red Deer river (takes about 3 minutes!) pedal up the short but serious hill (12% – make sure you are in your small gear!), then back to town along the South Dinosaur Trail following the signs back to the Badlands Community Facility.

Once back in town continue straight through the lights east on Highway 10. Around 5 km later you will turn right onto Highway 10X and into the historic town of Wayne, crossing a world record number of bridges (11) in the shortest distance (10 km). After visiting the Wayne Hotel Baconsaurus station, return to Highway 10, turn left back to Drumheller for 75km total ride. If you turn, right ride along the river and past hoodoos following the signs for the turnaround at 100km or 140km total ride. The 140km turn around is up the hill past Dorothy aid station. 

There are no designated lanes to cyclist as the roads are open to traffic at all times. All cyclists will ride to the far right of the road – on the shoulder – alongside traffic.

The road surface is pavement with the exception of a number of wooden bridges on the out and back to Wayne. Use cation on the bridges as there are some uneven spots.

Family Package – The parent(s) will pay the regular fee and a child/children aged 17 and under will pay $60.  There has to be one parent cycling to qualify for the $60 child’s fee.
Please note: we do not have a rate for youth only under the age of 18 as all youth must be accompanied by an adult out on course regardless of athletic ability.
Register for the 75km/100km/140km

King and Queen of the Mountain (140km + 160km only)

Times will be combined on two hills to determine the KOM/QOM so watch for the signs. Those riding 140/162 km are eligible for prizes (top 3 KOM/QOM combined times) but everyone will get the first hill climb time recorded.

First climb – right off the Ferry. This climb is a slap in the face – you will see short bits of 12% grade. The climb is 1.2 km long.

 Second climb – after Aid Station 4/5 at Dorothy, 2 km gradual climb, approximately 7 to 9% grade.

Gran Fondo Refund Policy

There will be no refunds. You can roll your entry to 2023 for an additional $60 up until June 1st, 2022. Please email triitrichelle@gmail.com if you need to do this.

What if the event gets cancelled?

The event will not be cancelled, but rather postponed. We have a high level of confidence that the event will go and if it does get postponed, you will be rolled into the new date automatically. Should the new date not work for you, you would be refunded all but $60, due to the upfront costs of putting on an event.

 

Transfer of Entry

You may transfer your entry to another person up until June 1st, 2022. However, they will pay the CURRENT rate of the entry. (ie. if you paid $150 for our entry on December 15th, but are transferring your entry on May 28th, the person buying your entry will pay $175)You can do this by logging into your Active.com account that you created at registration and manage your registration.

Active Refund

At checkout there is an option to choose "Active Refund" which is an additional fee above and beyond our registration, GST and Active's processing fees. This is done directly through Active.com and NOT through Gran Fondo Badlands. 

If you did purchase the additional race insurance from Active.com and need to cancel your registration for one of the covered reasons, please claim directly through Active, not Gran Fondo Badlands. Please contact customer support at 1-877-228-4881.

What are the distances? 

50km, 75km, 100km, 140km and 162km
Please note: all riding distances are approximate. We have done our best to ensure that each distance is accurate but based on the routes chosen, for the 50 and 75 km, it is sometimes difficult to be exact. Rest assured if you are riding the full distance you will ride a full 100 miles/162 km (based on our GPS) or even a bit more. We know how you hate to be short-changed!

I want to enter but do not have a road bike. Can I still participate?
Absolutely! Road bikes and triathlon (TT bikes or bikes with aerobars) are the most common bikes out there but a pathway bike, mountain bike or an ebike are all more than welcome! We also welcome tandom bikes with permission from the race director.
*ebikes are not eligible for KOM or QOM awards.

What if I want to change the distance I registered for?

No problem at all! Just let us know before, or even right after the event if you change distances while out on course.

When is package pick up?

  • If you wish to change your distance you are able to do so at package pick-up.

  • You may have a family member or friend pick up your package for you.

When are the meals?

Breakfast is available from 6:30am – 8am (upstairs in the Badlands Community Facility)

Lunch is available from 11am – 4pm (outside of the Badlands Community Facility)

What amenities are available post-race?

BEER GARDENS - the beer gardens which are located right beside the start/finish area will open at 11am until 5pm. Cash and credit card are accepted. ($7/473ml beer or a glass or wine).

MASSAGE – massage therapists from National Spine Care will again be giving massages at the finish line for a cost of $1/minute. Please bring cash.

SHOWERS – showers are available at the community centre, the cost in included in your entry fee. Bring a towel!

RESULTS – official results will be posted on our website and at Startline Timing 

While there are no awards for the distances, we will have KOM and QOM awards for the 160km riders. These two segments will be clearly marked.

LOST AND FOUND – will be located at the announcer’s tent. After event day please contact tritstaff@gmail.com for lost and found inquiries. All unclaimed lost items will be donated after 30 days.
