You Pick Your Distance
No matter what distance you ride, you will see lots of hoodoos, long river and coulee vistas, and the unique “badlands” scenery of the Dinosaur Valley. There will be lots of dinosaurs to see also, but most will be statues.

Piccolo 50km Route
The new Gran Fondo Badlands ride begins in town, heading along the North Dinosaur Trial right past the Royal Tyrrell Museum to the 100 year old Bleriot ferry, approximately 25 km. Stop at the aid station for refreshments, take in the scenery, enjoy the ferry ride across the Red Deer river (takes about 2 minutes!) pedal up the short but serious hill (12% – make sure you are in your small gear!).

Medio – 75 / 100 / 140 km Route
Once back in town you can decide to return to the start for lunch, or continue south on Highway 10. Around 10 km later you will turn right onto Highway 10X and into the historic town of Wayne, crossing a world record number of bridges (11) in the shortest distance (10 km). After visiting the Wayne Hotel aid station, return to Highway 10.

Those of you who would like to challenge yourself to ride a bit further, a few kilometres past Dorothy is a 2 km 8% monster hill which will add on about 10 to 20 km. Turn around at the top and follow Highway 10 back to Drumheller which will give you a total riding mileage of approximately 100 miles to the end.

Velofix is a mobile bike shop that comes right to your home or office to service your bike. Book your appointment online, they show up when it’s convenient for you, and you’re back out riding the same day. Velofix will be supporting the GFB again this year, offering free basic adjustments at the start of the event and helping to keep riders going while on course.
If you have problems on the course, don’t worry! Velofix and TCR Sport Lab will be out providing support to riders to get them back riding and help them complete the event.
Both will have roving mechanics with tools, tubes, tires, bike pumps and other items to assist cyclists with minor repairs which may be required while on the course. Please note that if there are any major repairs necessary to a bike the mechanics may not have the required tools or parts to assist you.
In the event your bike cannot be repaired on course, we have sag wagons available to transport participants and their bikes to the finish line.
Paramedics will also be on the course should medical assistance be required. As well, there will be limited first aid supplies at each aid station.
If additional medical assistance is required, participants should notify the volunteers at the aid stations and they will telephone for further help. Participants should dial 9-1-1 on their cell phone if emergency assistance is required immediately.
All riding distances are approximate. We have done our best to ensure that each distance is accurate but based on the routes chosen, especially for the 50 and 75 km, it is sometimes difficult to be exact. Rest assured if you are riding the Gran Fondo you will ride a full 100 miles/162 km (based on our GPS) or even a bit more. We know how you hate to be short-changed!
